The award conditions are:
- Candidates must be prepared to come to New Zealand for minimum of five days and to undertake speaking engagements in at least two New Zealand cities;
- They must also participate in one fundraising event (if requested by the working group), engage with traditional and social media, and meet with key people in their field of expertise;
- An individual cannot be offered more than one John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship in their lifetime.
