Fulbright Specialist Awards are for New Zealand institutions to host US academics, artists, or professionals for two- to six-week programmes of activities, including lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, and symposiums.
Closing date: 1 June annually
The Fulbright Specialist programme pairs highly qualified US academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise and strengthen institutional linkages, while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.
Specialists who represent a wide range of disciplines are competitively selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster. Those that have been approved to join the Roster are then eligible to be matched with approved projects designed by foreign host institutions from over 150 countries. Once abroad, Specialists partner with their host institution to conduct project activities in support of the host institution’s priorities and goals.
The Fulbright Specialist programme aims to provide a short-term, on-demand resource to international host institutions. Specialists are strongly encouraged to continue to work with host institutions in the years following their initial exchange.
New Zealand institutions can apply to host a specific US Specialist from the Fulbright Specialist Roster or make an open application to have a suitable Specialist assigned to meet their needs. Eligible institution types include universities, non-profit organisations, government agencies, cultural and medical institutions, as well as research organisations and think tanks.
