Veronica Tawhai
Fulbright New Zealand invites you to a free public seminar by recently-returned alumna Veronica Tawhai, a lecturer in Māori development at Massey University’s School of Māori Studies, Te Pūtahi-a-Toi. Veronica received a 2012 Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award to research indigenous assessments of the transformative potential of citizenship education, at the Center for World Indigenous Studies in Olympia, Washington.
In this seminar, Veronica will share insights learnt from indigenous political educators in the US about citizenship education, and particularly the new directions needed to foster wider understanding of indigenous rights, protest and aspirations for the future. Ethical matters concerning research with indigenous political leaders and activists will also be explored.
