Fulbright New Zealand invites you to a free public seminar by alumnus Peter Griffin, manager of the Science Media Centre, editor of Sciblogs.co.nz and technology columnist for the New Zealand Listener. Peter recently returned from two months researching public interest journalism in the US as a Fulbright-Harkness New Zealand Fellow. He visited centres of excellence including the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, DC, Propublica in New York and the Center for Health Reporting in Los Angeles.
In this seminar Peter will discuss lessons from the US about the future of news, and in particular, how public interest journalism that uncovers corruption and speaks truth to power can be carried out when the mainstream media is increasingly unable to pay for it.
Places are limited so please RSVP to [email protected] or 472 2065 by Monday 18 March. Feel free to bring your own “brown bag” lunch.
